I’ve beaten some fairly serious odds in my life. But I’m still alive and I live in Japan. I’m an Expat. Gaijin. Outsider. And happily, so. Actually, I’ve felt like an outsider most of my life. That is the main backdrop against which I create content. I’m Curious about everything!
Our planet has become a rather stressful and confusing to inhabit, so I want to share elements of my life that, hopefully, will spread some positivity and good vibes. There’s a lot more to me than being the Curious Gaijin. I have a long background in a range of creative arts, including musical theatre, gigging with bands, acting, and filmmaking – actually managed to persuade a university in Australia to give me a master’s degree for that last one! :)
I’m putting all of my professional experiences into what you see on the pages of this website and my various social media channels. The Curious Gaijin is all about doing life in my little corner of the world; a country-sea resort spot on Japan’s Chiba coast.
Despite the “No Quidditch” rule, the temptation to fly around on a vintage Nimbus was just irresistible. Zipping through the fresh November air, working through a series of Quidditch manoeuvers was intoxicating!
When Donald Trump – aka the “Florida Man” – announced his candidacy to run for President (again) in 2024, most people just scratched their heads, asking: “This is a joke, right?”
Before I get into the meaning of the term: “Gaijin”, what the word means in my universe, and in the context of my media feed, I need to debunk a little of the bullshit surrounding the word and its use. My own definition is: outside, alien, foreigner, doesn’t belong.
I’ve always been curious about pretty much EVERYTHING! I’m certainly not unique in that. It’s human nature to be inquisitive, to want to know the details, to ask: “why is it so?” and “how did it come to be?” and “what if it hadn’t been exactly like that?”
Angelino means “Little Angel” in Italian – and quite obviously why I have wings! I’m a mixed bag really: Italian – well half of me is. The other half is Dutch. I grew up in Australia, and these days I’m a Japan-based Creative Entrepreneur.
The Curious Gaijin – “aka” the Bearded Blogger, Ex-Journo is: Well, it’s ME! See, for most of my career I was a broadcast journalist and presenter.
